Sound development should feel natural, playful, and fun. Little Soundlings is a set of 52 beautifully illustrated cards created by a speech pathologist that turn sound exploration into moments of joy and connection.
Little Soundlings is about more than sounds. It is about connection, confidence, and celebrating every small step in your child’s communication journey.
Created with evidence-informed strategies, each card invites children to explore speech sounds through gesture cues, playful visuals, and child-friendly words that spark motivation and connection. Whether you’re a parent, educator, or therapist, these cards provide an engaging way for children to hear, see, feel, and try sounds in everyday play.

Where speech begins with smiles and sounds
They had the spark. They have all the little things we look for in early communication. They were watching my face, taking turns, copying actions…
But the sounds just weren’t coming.
Some families I’ve worked with had been sitting on long waitlists, stuck in that limbo of wanting to help but not knowing where to begin.
Others were curious, wondering if their child’s speech was developing as expected.
Some simply wanted to make their home more language-rich and sound-filled, even if there were no clear concerns.
What they all had in common?
They wanted to support their child’s speech in ways that felt natural, and not clinical. Joyful, not stressful.
I knew we needed something fresh. Something current.
Something that actually speaks to this age group, colourful, playful, and grounded in how little ones really learn.
Not another worksheet.
Not another drill.
Something that invited children to play with sounds , through movement, imagination, and connection.
That’s why I created Little Soundlings.
A colourful, engaging, and evidence-informed tool designed to help children explore new speech sounds through everyday play within the family home, in the garden, or anywhere they feel safe and supported.
It’s grounded in the strategies I use as a speech pathologist like modelling, repetition, and multisensory engagement
, but designed for anyone to use, not just therapists.
Because when the foundation is there...
💛 every sound matters.

You’re a parent, career, early childhood educator, or speech pathologist who values connection, imagination, and engagement as the foundation for speech and language development.
You love the idea of turning everyday toys and routines — like cars, blocks, bubbles, or bath time — into meaningful speech practice moments.

🚫 You’re looking for a diagnostic tool or a structured therapy program
🚫 Little Soundlings is a fun and engaging practice tool that is not a replacement for individualised speech pathology support.
🚫 Your child isn’t yet showing any signs of emerging preverbal communication,
such as attention to faces, gestures, or sounds.
In this case, it may be more helpful to first focus on building foundational interaction and connection skills before introducing sound-focused activities.
🚫 You prefer rigid, academic-style practice with drills, repetition, and formal targets.
🚫 This deck is designed to feel like play, not a worksheet perfect for kids who thrive on imagination, movement, and fun.
🚫 Your child already says all their speech sounds clearly and consistently.
💡 Your speech pathologist may even suggest ways to tailor the cards, model sounds, or build specific prompts based on your child’s individual needs.
"As a dad, I can’t recommend Tiny Talkers by Tash Howlett enough! My little boy’s speech hasn’t come easily, but this book’s fun characters and playful sound games have us laughing and learning together. Written by a speech pathologist, it’s a heartfelt, easy way to support my son’s growing voice. A total win for us!"
Dad of 5-year-old,
Port Stephens
“My daughter has always loved books, but this one is different. It gives her permission to be noisy, playful, and creative with her voice. I’ve seen her confidence grow in just a few weeks, and she now uses sounds in pretend play with her friends.”
Dad of 5-year-old,
Sydney
"To say that my daughter loves Tash's book is an understatement! It is a staple in our bedtime routine. Mia loves to explore the beautiful illustrations and talk about what she sees. We have read it that many times that she can parrot the words on the story. I can't wait to see more books from Tash and add them to our collection!"
Mum of a 3-year-old,

“My daughter is very shy and hesitant to speak in groups. Tiny Talkers has given her a safe way to explore her voice at home. Now she’s started to use the silly sounds at preschool too, which makes my heart burst with pride. A beautiful tool disguised as a fun book!”
Mum of a 5-year-old,
Gold Coast
“My son is usually resistant to practicing sounds, but the Soundlings gave him ownership. He loves choosing which card to play with and teaching ME the sounds. I can see his confidence growing every day.”
Dad of 6-year-old, Hobart
“My son isn’t usually keen on ‘learning’ activities, but he LOVES these cards. He pretends the Soundlings are his friends and says the phrases with the matching actions. Sometimes I have to hide the deck just to give myself a break!”
Mum of 4-year-old,
Sydney
“What I love most about Little Soundlings is the way it’s brought us closer. My son will grab a card, copy the phrase, then look straight at me and giggle until I do it back. It’s turned into our little game of back-and-forth play, and I can see his confidence shining through those shared moments.”
Mum of 4-year-old,
Hunter Valley
“My daughter turned the deck into her own game. She lines the cards up, acts out the gestures, and says the phrases in different voices. I love how flexible it is. It’s not just ‘flashcards,’ it’s play, imagination, and practice rolled into one.”
Dad of 5-year-old,
Sydney
“My daughter and I make a whole performance out of the cards. We take turns acting out the gestures and saying the phrases in silly voices. She loves when I get it ‘wrong’ on purpose, and it sparks so much laughter. It doesn’t just feel like speech practice, it feels like connection.”
Dad of 5-year-old,
Sydney
“Our speechie recommended Little Soundlings, and I can see why. It gives us a fun, structured way to practise at home without any arguments. My daughter copies the gestures and phrases so enthusiastically, it’s like a game she actually wants to play.”
Mum of 4-year-old,

“My son isn’t usually keen on ‘learning’ activities, but he LOVES these cards. He pretends the Soundlings are his friends and says the phrases with the matching actions. The bonus activity sheets gave me fresh ideas to keep it exciting—like hiding cards around the house for a treasure hunt, memory."
Dad of 4-year-old,
Hunter Valley
“As a family, we try to keep screen-time low and focus on meaningful activities. Little Soundlings has been a brilliant alternative—engaging, interactive, and designed with speech development research in mind. I love knowing it’s not just fun, but also evidence-based. My daughter asks for the cards more than any toy in the house!”
